About The Event

The multimedia basketball event is a student-hosted event taking place May 6th, 12:10pm at Parc Gohier. The Park is just 10 minutes away by walk from the m building. We plan to make this event a recreational activity less focused on winning and more on having fun, this is the reason why there isn't a prize pool or an entry fee. The goal is for any multimedia member (student, teacher, staff) to be able to play for fun in a basketball game. More information on how the games will be set up can be found further in the page.

Why We Decided To Host The Event

We as a group decided to host this event at first to see who between us was a better basketball player. It then became a goal of mine to host an event for multimedia on a day where a lot of people can join. In addition to this, I also felt like making a poster for this and hosting the event in general would be good for my personal portfolio.

The Process

Continuing from where I left off of with why I decided to do it, my first step was to discuss the when and where for the event. After that I decided all the other important details that would be used to try and see who our demographic was. I then started making a poster that I knew I wanted at least 2 specific things in it. Those things were a basketball and the multimedia logo which I effectively did add to the main part of the poster. I also then wanted to have a nice grainy texture for the background to make it look more realistic and basketball like. Then I made placed the text around, which was the final step before I had someone else review it. Including the sketching done, this process up to this point took me around 3 days on and off because I prioritised my school work. After getting reviews from Barry and Atie I decided to make the text have more movement and I then put a call-to-action right above my qr code. The final steps for the poster design was that I made all the text properly aligned and lastly I asked a bunch of students their opinion. Since the poster was done I moved on to test-printing which I was happy enough with the results. The posters can now be found on the door to leave the multimedia building and on Peter's snack cabinet.

How The Event Is Going To Play Out

Depending on how many people sign up and show up the event will most likely play out as 3 v 3 matches. If the majority of players want a tournament style basketball event then I will decided on the day before the event to make the brackets. Teams will most likely either be randomised with a wheelspin or we will choose the best 4-5 players to be captain and they will choose their players. Depending on how good a team is changes may be made to balance it out.
